May might have been wet, and let's face it, pretty miserable! but it's not all doom and gloom as it looks like the unseasonably inclement weather has sparked some amazing creativity from you guys, and it makes my heart glow to see it!
The reason started developing beginner-friendly embroidery patterns was because when I used to search for something that I would not only enjoy creating but actually want on my wall I found it difficult to find. I felt the space lacked contemporary (slightly edgier!) designs, and it was that which triggered me to start my own modern embroidery patterns. Four years on and the thing that still fills me with the most pleasure is seeing finished embroideries from people bringing my designs to life - many of whom were complete beginners, and proof that *everyone* can create.
I like to give all my embroideries a name which means this month we've had Roxy, Katy and Zoe embroideries coming through plus some amazing creativity from the embroidery workshops in London too. A particular highlight being an amazing set of embroidered tote bags created by someone who before they'd attended a SIp & Sew workshop had never picked up a needle before! And sewn by a man .. which *of course* should be neither here nor there but unfortunately still is when it comes to embroidery which is still seen as a largely female craft so to see such creativity from a beginner (and a man) definitely gave me a glow!
So what did i discover in May? That everyone has creativity within them, that boys can sew (brilliantly!) and that I'm not the only one who likes their embroidery with a bit of an edge ... not a bad month I'd say.
Now lets bring on June, which includes baby showers, hen parties, garden workshops and a private members club - watch this space, all will be revealed!
